Wood ready to take game to ‘next level’ after renewing Sydney FC contract

Teenage Sydney FC striker Patrick Wood has extended his stay at the Sky Blues, renewing his contract for the 2022-23 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Wood, 19, made his ALM debut for the club in January, 2021; he’s since gone on to amass 30 appearances for the club (six starts), scoring five goals and registering one assist.

Speaking to club media, Wood expressed his eagerness to hit the ground running in Sky Blue as the club moves into the new Allianz Stadium ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

“It’s going to be a massive season for us and I can’t wait to get back scoring goals,” Wood said.

“I feel I’m developing with every game and there’s no better place to continue that learning than at Sydney FC.

“Playing at the new Allianz Stadium is going to be electric and it will take my game to the next level.”

Sydney head coach Steve Corica added: “Pat has the wonderful ability to find the back of the net, he’s direct and knows how to be in the right place at the right time.

“The more he continues to develop that ability and the rest of his game, the more goals he will score and he will be an extremely valuable player for us.

“I’m excited to see what he can achieve for the club and himself in the next two years.”
