Westfield W-League Round 10 Review

Westfield W-League Round 10 Review

Perth Glory are Westfield W-League Premiers for the first time after their ninth win from ten starts stretched their lead at the top to ten points with two rounds remaining.

The Glory celebrated in style with a 5-0 win over the visiting Western Sydney Wanderers thanks to a Sam Kerr brace, plus goals from Collette McCallum, Marianna Tabain and Kate Gill.

Canberra United’s goal-laden 3-3 draw at Newcastle Jets earlier meant that the Glory could not be surpassed at the top.

Sydney FC momentarilty inched into second and in front of Canberra in the race for a home semi-final with a one-sided 5-0 win over Adelaide United on Friday evening.

They were leapfrogged by Melbourne Victory on Sunday following their 2-1 win that ended the title aspirations of two-time champions Brisbane Roar in ABC TV’s match of the round.

Christine Nairn scored the winner ten minutes from full time as the result between the pair ensured the charge towards the semi-finals became a five-way race.
