Western United announce six exits, including a star import

Sydney Cummings is among the list of six players farewelling Western United following their unforgettable Liberty A-League season.

Cummings departs, having been an integral member of the Western side that reached the Grand Final in their inaugural campaign, along with Francesca Iermano, Aleksandra Sinclair, Danielle Steer, Tiana Jaber and Harriet Withers.

The 24-year-old defender played every minute of every match at the heart of the defence and scored four goals in 20 appearances but she is now set to return to the United States.

“Each of these six players have played crucial parts in building our history as a football club and will each be fondly remembered in the West,” said Western United general manager of football Mal Impiombato.

Iermano started in Western’s historic opening match against Melbourne Victory and she ended up rallying nine appearances for Mark Torcaso’s side.

A mid-season arrival, Canadian forward Steer scored two goals and supplied two assists in 14 matches.

Veteran and NPL star Sinclair played eight times for Western in her first time in a professional environment, Jaber featured twice as an injury-replacement player and again in the Grand Final, while injuries prevented Withers from representing Western.

It is the first batch of departures for Western, who have bolstered their squad the big signings of Grace Maher (Canberra United) and Catherine Zimmerman (Melbourne Victory).
