Western Sydney’s ‘hunger for success’ behind Yengi’s move to Wanderland

Western Sydney Wanderers and their desire to be successful enticed Kusini Yengi to join the Isuzu UTE A-League club.

Adelaide United tabled an offer to keep Yengi at Coopers Stadium, however, the 23-year-old opted to leave and sign a two-year deal in Western Sydney.

Yengi scored six goals in 27 matches across three seasons for Adelaide, after his debut in 2019-20.

The exciting forward, who is away on international duty with Australia at the Under-23 Asian Cup, is the fourth new signing at Wanderland as the Wanderers rebuild after a fifth consecutive campaign without finals football.

“I was ready for a fresh start after three years in Adelaide. The club’s plan for next season, their amazing facilities, and Mark (head coach Mark Rudan’s) hunger for success were all things that enticed me to join the club,” said Yengi.

“I’m coming to the Wanderers to not only continue my development as a player but mainly to be successful.

“The Wanderers are one of the biggest clubs in the A-Leagues with a very strong and rich history. I’m looking forward to helping this amazing club get back to where it should be – winning titles and playing in Asia.”

The Wanderers have also signed Frenchman Romain Amalfitano, former Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas and Zac Sapsford heading into 2022-23.

“We are very excited to welcome Kusini to Western Sydney and we are eager to see the energy he will bring to the group,” said Rudan.

“Kusini is one of the best young strikers in the country and we look forward to helping him reach his full potential.

“His (Kusini) resilience and passion aligns with our values and culture, and we expect him to settle in well and have a big impact at the Red & Black.”
