Western boost title defence with Championship-winning defender

Western United and Jacob Tratt have something in common – they have both won an A-League Men Championship – and the two parties will come together in 2022-23.

Former Adelaide United defender Tratt joins reigning Isuzu UTE A-League champions Western on a one-year deal for the upcoming season.

Tratt brings Championship-winning experience to Western, having been part of Sydney FC’s triumphant squad in 2019.

The 27-year-old scored once in 14 ALM appearances as Adelaide reached the Semi-Final last season.

“Jacob joins us with over 50 games in the league and a Championship under his belt, so his know-how and ability at the back will be a great addition for us,” said Western head coach John Aloisi.

“We love his versatility – he can play anywhere across the back four and can be a real asset in the box at both ends with his height and aerial prowess.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming Jacob into the group and seeing him help us throughout this season.”

Tratt, who emerged from Sydney FC’s youth team in 2015, has also played for Wellington Phoenix (2016-17) and Perth Glory (2019-20) in the ALM.

He also spent time with Odisha in the Indian Super League.

“I feel really privileged to join the current Champions and I’m really excited to get to work with my new team-mates,” Tratt said after joining fellow recruit James Troisi at Western.

“Watching Western United’s defence last season really impressed me and I’m eager to be a part of it alongside so many great players and professionals.

“I can’t wait to play under John Aloisi and all the coaches and I’m just keen to get going and play in front of the fans.”
