‘We are entering a new era’: Grant relishing Sydney FC’s fresh beginning

No player has made more appearances for Sydney FC and now the club’s longest-serving player Rhyan Grant has extended his contract.

Sydney star Grant signed a new two-year deal, taking the Socceroos full-back into his 15th and 16th seasons as a Sky Blue.

Grant has already amassed a record 276 games for Sydney across all competitions since debuting in 2008, with 234 of those in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

The three-time Championship and Premiership winner is relishing a new era with Sydney, who missed the finals for the first time in six years last term.

“I feel like I have more desire than ever to play for this club,” said Grant as Sydney prepare to play out of the new state-of-the-art Allianz Stadium in Moore Park.

“We are entering a new era, a new stadium with new training facilities and a fresh beginning for the club. I’m delighted to be a part of it.

“I know last season wasn’t our greatest so I’m determined to help return success to our club when we return home to our new world-class stadium this coming season.”

Grant made 21 A-League Men appearances in 2021-22, scoring once.

The 31-year-old also earned his second A-Leagues All Stars selection, coming up against LaLiga giants Barcelona last month.

Sydney head coach Steve Corica added: “Rhyan’s quality is in no doubt and he has become one of the leaders of our team and our dressing room.

“He is an integral part of our club and a major reason why we have enjoyed such success in recent seasons.

“His re-signing for the club gives us a better chance of returning to the top of the ladder and winning more titles.”
