Victory bring back Championship winner Chidiac: I want to achieve more

A key piece of Melbourne Victory’s Liberty A-League Championship-winning squad will return in 2022-23 after the defending champions re-signed star Alex Chidiac.

The 2021-22 Victory Medallist, Chidiac returns to Melbourne on loan from National Women’s Soccer League outfit Racing Louisville, where she scored two goals in 18 NWSL appearances in 2022.

Chidiac’s move to the United States came after her title-winning exploits with Victory as the Matildas midfielder helped Jeff Hopkins’ side clinch back-to-back A-League Women Championships.

“I’m excited to be heading back to Victory and I can’t wait to link up with the team and get back to work in Australia,” said Chidiac, who featured in 14 games in her first season with Victory, scoring once and supplying two assists.

“I had a great experience with Jeff and the squad last season, and I want to achieve more with this club and with this group this campaign.”

Victory will begin their title defence against ALW newcomers Western United on November 18.

“We’re thrilled to be able to have Alex back for another season at Victory,” said Victory director of football John Didulica.

“Her influence on the squad was immediate when she joined us in January, setting the standard on and off the pitch, and we believe she has more to offer coming into such an important period for women’s football in Australia.”
