Western Sydney Wanderers have bolstered their squad for the 2016/17 Hyundai A-League season with the double signing of Jacob Melling and Jack Clisby.
With over 100 Hyundai A-League caps between them, the pair add experience and depth to the Red & Black.
Western Sydney will be Clisby’s third club, with the left back having gained great experience from his 60 matches for Perth Glory and Melbourne City and is a welcome addition to the squad.
The 24-year-old also gives the club flexibility in the backline with Hyundai A-League experience at centre-back.
A very energetic player with the ability to run up and down the field all day, Clisby is a team player with a strong competitive nature.
Clisby said he believed he will fit in well at the Wanderers.
“Players at the Wanderers really work for each other, the Club always has a solid game plan and from an outsider’s perspective you can see a really good team chemistry which I can’t wait to be a part of,” said Clisby.
“I feel I can learn a lot under Tony Popovic. The Wanderers are a very competitive club and I would like to take my game to the next level and contribute to that.
“It’s going to be a new experience for me, a new challenge and I’m looking forward to it. I’m very excited and I can’t wait to get to Western Sydney and join the group.”
For Melling, the move to Wanderland presents a new challenge for the Australian Institute of Sport product after 45 appearances with Adelaide United and Melbourne City.
Making his first grade debut as a teenager with the Reds, the tough-tackling midfielder moved to Melbourne where he established himself as a regular in City’s midfield.
Melling prides himself on his aggressiveness and will be one to watch with his box-to-box ability and fearless attitude.
“For me it was time to move to a club that always aspires to be the best,” said Melling.
“Playing against the Wanderers is very intimidating – especially in Western Sydney – and to play in that atmosphere, with that fan group behind me will be an incredible experience.
“I’m going to put my body on the line for the team and I’m going to give my all for this club.”
Both players have signed for the next two Hyundai A-League seasons.
