Representatives of Melbourne City full-back Jordan Bos are in talks with European clubs, with several preparing bids that would make this a record outbound A-Leagues transfer.
The emergence of the latest generation of local Aussie talent looks set to culminate in a record outbound A-Leagues transfer.
Just a month after making his Socceroos debut, Melbourne City sensation Jordan Bos is on the verge of a record-breaking move, with a host of overseas clubs queuing for his signature.
Bos’ representatives have been in talks with European clubs and it is understood that several are preparing bids in excess of $1.5 million.
Clubs from numerous countries are interested in Bos’ signature, including the Netherlands, with Bos holding a Dutch passport.
The A-League Men sale record sits at around $1.4m, with Aaron Mooy (Melbourne City to Manchester City), Mitch Langerak (Melbourne Victory to Borussia Dortmund), Rostyn Griffiths (Central Coast to Guangzhou R&F), Daniel De Silva (Perth Glory to Roma), Daniel Arzani (Melbourne City to Manchester City) and Adrian Mierzejewski (Sydney FC to Changchun Yatai) among the players who were initially sold abroad for in excess of $1m.
The likes of Mat Ryan and Mitch Langerak have netted their former clubs, Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory respectively, further seven-figure sums in add-ons.
Bos, who played his junior football at Hoppers Crossing and Point Cook Soccer Clubs in Melbourne’s west before joining City’s academy, has had a breakout season, netting twice in 23 A-League games, after one goal in 13 appearances last season.
He has made another five Australia Cup appearances, while last month he added to his Australian youth international games by debuting for the Socceroos against Ecuador after replacing fellow Melbourne product Aziz Behich in the second half.
Melbourne City have been fielding enquiries for Bos, who has impressed City football chief Michael Petrillo and the coaching staff with his continued progress, holding off stiff opposition for the left-back position, ahead of the likes of captain Scott Jamieson.
Speaking to KEEPUP in February, Bos revealed that he was eyeing off a move to Europe.
“Hopefully in the next couple of years I go overseas. That’s my dream,” Bos said.
“So hopefully I keep pushing and keep proving myself and maybe get a call one day and head over there.
“I always idolised both (Lionel) Messi and Arjen Robben. Especially when I played midfield and right wing. When I used to be a right-winger, Robben used to inspire me to cut in and banged it top (bins).
“I also fancy Alphonso Davies. More recently when I’ve started playing left back, I’ve watched Davies a lot.”
Bos’ impressive right-footed goal in last week’s 1-1 draw at Central Coast helped City secure the Premiers Plate.
Bos, who holds a Dutch passport through his father, is familiar with Europe having enjoyed many family holidays there where football was always front and centre.
“When I was younger I used to go overseas quite a bit. We used to kick the ball at local clubs and meet up with cousins, it was good,” he said.
“The Dutch influence carried on from my father down to me and I like to keep up with what’s going on over there, supporting Feyenoord and also liking (FC) Twente and Heracles (Almelo).”
