Toure off to Ligue 1 as Adelaide cash in on teenage pair

Adelaide United star Mohamed Toure has signed for a Ligue 1 club after the Isuzu UTE A-League outfit confirmed the transfer.

Toure, who is the youngest goalscorer in A-League Men history after scoring as a 15-year-old in February 2020, has reportedly joined Reims in France’s top flight.

As part of the deal, team-mate Yaya Dukuly will also be making the move to the French team.

In two-and-a-half seasons with Adelaide, the 18-year-old Toure scored seven goals in 42 appearances.

“I’m extremely thankful for everything Adelaide has done for me in my time at the club,” Toure said.
 
“They gave me the chance to represent my hometown team and, while developing and growing both as a person and footballer.
 
“My dream has always been to play in Europe, so I’m really looking forward to this next chapter in my career and embracing a new challenge in a tough league.”

In 2021-22, Toure scored three goals in 18 ALM matches as Adelaide reached the semi-finals.

“Mohamed is one of the most talented young players that has played for the club and was always destined for bigger opportunities,” said Reds head coach Carl Veart.
 
“The French league is one of the top five leagues in Europe, but I’m confident with the right work ethic and desire, Mohamed can be successful.
 
“He was a pleasure to coach and nurture, and we wish him all the best in the next stage of his career overseas.”

Dukuly in action for Adelaide against Macarthur FC.

Dukuly scored twice in 16 appearances across all competitions after joining Adelaide heading into the 2020-21 season.

“I have loved representing my hometown team and am proud to have been part of this amazing group of players,” he said.
 
“Making this step to play in Europe is exciting and I’m looking forward to continuing my development with a strong club in a strong league.”
