Roar vent frustrations after disallowed goal: ‘It’s just embarrassing’

Carlo Armiento and Warren Moon made it clear how they felt after having a goal ruled out in Brisbane Roar’s 2-1 loss to Adelaide United in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Nestory Irankunda’s stunning 82nd-minute strike lifted Adelaide past Brisbane at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.

However, Brisbane could have easily been 2-1 ahead if not for the intervention of VAR.

In the 63rd minute, Armiento’s corner found the back of the net as Adelaide goalkeeper Joe Gauci fluffed his lines.

Armiento wheeled away in celebration before VAR intervened and the goal was chalked off due to Joe Knowles obstructing Gauci.

“It’s disappointing… We should’ve had the three points. That decision was embarrassing,” the Roar midfielder told Paramount+.

“He’s jumped up with the goalkeeper, he has flapped at it. It should be a goal but what can you do? It’s the decision and we have to move on.

“He has made the correct decision. He has given the goal. I don’t know what happened after that. On the replay, he’s jumped with Knowesly and he has flapped at it. It’s just embarrassing.”

Brisbane have now gone five games without a win to be 10th in the Isuzu UTE A-League standings.

This, despite the Roar scoring for the first time in three matches.

Roar head coach Warren Moon added: “We’re disappointed. The performance warranted more than what we got tonight.

“We’ve had some strange decisions tonight… my player has jumped for that corner. There is no contact. The player has two hands to catch a ball with gloves and they think it’s contact.

“Anyone who’s played the game knows that’s not contact.”
