PRE-SEASON SUMMARY

Perth Glory

Perth enter into yet another new era after Ruben Zadkovich resigned as senior head coach in early June. The club are currently searching for his replacement, but in the interim, Kenny Lowe will step in for the friendly against West Ham and clash with the Bulls in Darwin next Tuesday. Lowe previously coached the side between 2013-18 and is their longest serving manager during their tenure in the A-League Men’s.

The club are also on the hunt for new investors as a potential change in ownership continues to roll on.

RADICH: Glory confirm familiar face as interim coach & provide update on ownership situation

On the field, Glory have had a slate of exits including young gun Keegan Jelacic – who signed for Belgian side Gent – while Jack Clisby, Liam Reddy, Zach Duncan, Jacob Dowse and Antonee Burke-Gilroy were among the 13 to leave the club.

Their only new arrival thus far is All Whites goalkeeper Oli Sail from Wellington Phoenix, while Daniel Bennie and Jaylan Pearman were handed scholarship deals.

West Ham United

The Hammers are set enter into a new age in wake of star midfielder Declan Rice’s imminent departure from the club. Rice is set to join Premier League runners-up Arsenal for a whopping £105 million, with the deal to be completed soon.

David Moyes’ side had an interesting 2022-23 season, where they finished 14th in the Premier League and only six points above the drop zone, but took home the UEFA Europa Conference League title in a dramatic victory over Fiorentina. Despite having another season of European football locked in, the Hammers are under pressure to turn things around in the league and are in the midst of an important off-season as they look to replace the outgoing Rice.

Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria has been linked with a move to the London based side, as has Real Betis defender Luiz Felipe – who looks set to sign for the club. Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse has also been garnering a tonne of interest and the Hammers are one of the teams expected to bid for the England midfielder.

The other fascinating storyline is the case of Italian forward Gianluca Scamacca who has been linked with a move back to Serie A. He even revealed in a recent interview with Gazzetto dello Sport that he would love the chance to play under Jose Mourinho at Roma.

Scamacca struggled with injuries last season, detailing that he played the entirety of the campaign with a torn meniscus. The talented striker started in the Hammers’ pre-season win over Boreham Wood on Tuesday and is in the squad to face Perth and Tottenham.

Tottenham Hotspur

The Ange Postecoglou era is officially underway.

All eyes will be on Postecoglou as he coaches his first game as Spurs boss against the Hammers on Tuesday. However, it will be a curious watch to see if star striker Harry Kane will line-up on the night too as he’s linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich.

Kane – who is in the final year of his contract – has an offer on the table from Spurs but reportedly won’t sign a new deal until after the transfer window is over. He has returned to pre-season training with Spurs and Postecoglou is keen to keep the English forward.

Spurs have been busy this off-season, signing James Maddison, Gugliemo Vicario and Manor Solomon as Postecoglou looks to shape the squad in his image ahead of the upcoming campaign.
