A Heritage Jersey, a new away strip coupled with a gala event will be just some of the features to commemorate Perth Glory Football Club’s 20th anniversary in Australian soccer.
It was on October 13 in 1996 when the club’s story began, playing its first competitive match against UTS Olympic at Perth Oval (nib Stadium).
While Glory lost 4-1, the team captured the hearts of football lovers around the state.
Since then the team has won three premierships (2000) (2002) (2004) and two Australian championships (2003) (2004). It was also the Hyundai A-League runner up in 2012 and has appeared in the last two FFA Cup finals.
This year the club will pay tribute to its past and present champions, volunteers, administrators and coaches throughout the season.
“We will honour and cherish those who have got us to where we are and to whom we are indebted for so many glorious memories and successes” said club CEO Peter Filopoulos.
“As we look back and celebrate and get excited by the great memories and the achievements of Despotovski, Harnwell, Naven, Miller, Mori, Stange and D’Avray we can feel just as buoyed by the promise of what lays ahead with Taggart, Keogh, Lowry, Risdon, Williams, Grant, Harold and Lowe”.
“We are determined, primed and ready as a club to do justice to this big occasion and make Perth and the entire state proud” he said.
Today Perth Glory launched its membership campaign for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 encouraging people to “Be There For The Glory” and includes several incentives for renewing members, including free FFA cup tickets to home games (excluding FFA Cup final) discounted seat pricing and merchandise.
The first match for the season kicks-off at home at nib Stadium in early October, which will be the first of 14 home matches, one more than last season.
