Millar the ‘perfect fit’ for Yorke’s Bulls as defender makes ALM return

The Macarthur FC signing spree continues as full-back Matthew Millar commits to a one-season deal with the club, returning to the Isuzu UTE A-League from Scottish club St Mirren FC.

The 25-year-old defender departed for Scotland at the conclusion of the 2020-21 ALM campaign, ending a two-season stint at Newcastle Jets broken up by a loan move to English League One outfit Shrewsbury Town in late 2020.

Millar has accrued 70 league appearances across stints at the Jets, Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City, making his ALM debut for the latter in December, 2015.

Millar’s four ALM seasons to date are highlighted by the 2019-20 season in which he scored four goals and assisted three more in 24 games for the Jets, and the season prior spent at the Mariners which garnered one goal and eight assists in 24 games.

He arrives at the Bulls having made 12 appearances for St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership throughout 2021-22. Millar says he’s eager to use his experiences in the UK to add value to Dwight Yorke’s Macarthur squad.

“The club are quite ambitious and with a new manager, it’s an exciting time for them, which I’m thrilled to be a part of this project,” Millar said.

“Coming from a club overseas, I’m hoping to bring my experience and adding value to the squad and contribute to a successful season with the Bulls.”

Bulls Group CEO Sam Krslovic said Millar is a perfect fit in Macarthur’s playing group.

“Matthew has quality talent as a defensive unit which I believe will add value to the team. He has big ambitions to continue his career which we are thrilled to continue to develop here at the Bulls,” Krslovic said.

“Building together a squad and club, it’s important we look at each individual player and how they will also gel with the team and represent our club. I believe Matthew is a perfect fit for the team and club which is why we wanted to bring him here.”

Millar is the seventh Bulls signing of the off-season, joining In: Jerry Skotadis, Jed Drew, Eddie Caspers, Jonathan Aspropotamitis , Kearyn Baccus and Anthony Carter in Campbelltown.
