‘I’m over the moon’: Jets swoop on former Glory duo Timmins and Stynes

Newcastle Jets have confirmed the arrival of both Callum Timmins and Daniel Stynes, two former Perth Glory prospects joining Brandon O’Neill in signing for Arthur Papas’ side from the Western Australian club.

Stynes, 23 arrives with 36 Isuzu UTE A-League appearances to his name, whilst 22-year-old central midfielder Timmins brings experience garnered across 44 ALM games for Perth to the Jets.

Newcastle head coach Papas says he’s excited to add the young duo to his ranks.

“We are excited to announce the signings of Callum and Daniel to the Newcastle Jets,” Papas said. “We have followed both players over the last year so when the opportunity arose to bring them across we acted immediately, allowing us to secure two young talents who will be strong additions to our squad.

“They have already had the chance to meet the squad and we are confident they will settle quickly and integrate positively into the environment.”

Timmins added: “I’m really excited for the new chapter in my career and after speaking to the boss he really gave me an insight into how I can push on both individually and collectively here at the Jets. I pride myself in giving 110% effort in everything I do and I’m extremely excited to be doing that here in Newcastle.”

Stynes and Timmins take Newcastle’s off-season signings up to 10, with 11 former players departing the club this off-season.

Stynes says the opportunity to work under Papas was what encouraged him to make the move from Perth to Newcastle.

“I’m over the moon to come to the Jets and play under Arthur Papas,” he said. “Once I knew of the interest, I was very excited. I’m looking forward to linking up with the team and helping the club reach their goals.”
