Commentator’s call

Michael Zappone

“The big question will be striker Aleksandar Prijovic. It was strongly rumoured he was not going to come back to the team and missed a large part of the pre-season. So how he adapts in the early part of the season will be a key factor.

“They’ll make finals, but will finish outside the top two this year in my view.

The big x-factor could be Alessandro Diamanti, who missed a lot of football last season, including finals. For a 39-year-old it’s going to be hard for him to come back and be a regular starter but his experience is a valuable asset and he can still be a match winner for them if he can get his knee right.

“But he was named captain, which indicates to me that John Aloisi expects him to play a significant role. If he can fire, it will give WU a shot in the arm.”

Signings: Jake Najdovski (promoted), James Troisi (Western Sydney Wanderers), Jacob Tratt (Adelaide United), Tongo Doumbia (Aktobe)

Departures: Rene Krhin, Jerry Skotadis, Ivan Vujica (Macarthur FC)

Re-signings: Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Ben Collins, Sebastian Pasquali, Alessandro Diamanti, Ben Garuccio
