‘I am ready to pick up where I left off’: Harrison returns to Wanderers

Amy Harrison guided Western Sydney Wanderers to their maiden A-League Women finals appearance before leaving for Europe at the end of 2019-20. Now, the Australian star has made her way back to Wanderland.

A 13-time Matilda, Harrison has signed a two-year deal with the Wanderers ahead of the Liberty A-League season.

After crossing the divide from Sydney FC for the Wanderers, Harrison and Western Sydney played finals football in 2019-20 – the midfielder scoring twice as the team reached the semi-finals.

Harrison has since enjoyed a two-year stint with Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven, where the 26-year-old won the KNVB Beeker Women and finished runner-up in the Eredivisie Women.

Esmee Brugts (L) and PSV team-mate Harrison celebrate with the trophy during the Dutch KNVB Beker Women match against ADO Den Haag.

The Western Sydney local returns to the Wanderers with unfinished business.

“After two seasons away, I’m so happy to be back home with the Wanderers to play in front of the club’s passionate members and fans, as well as my family and friends,” said Harrison.

“I am ready to pick up where I left off with the Wanderers and to hopefully add some more club milestones and records to the tally.

“As a Western Sydney local, I understand the importance of playing with passion and pride and I’m so excited for the season ahead.”

2022-23 A-League Women draw

The Wanderers kick-off their 2022-23 season away to Newcastle Jets on November 26.

Family-friendly kick-off times and free entry for all registered junior players are among a slew of measures designed to drive fans towards an expanded Liberty A-League Women’s competition in the lead-up to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

For the first time ever, the new Liberty Pass will give all registered junior players across the country, boys and girls, free entry to all Liberty A-League games – offering young fans the chance to see current and future Matildas every week as excitement grows ahead of the World Cup.
