Four-way tie for Westfield W-League Golden Boot at Dolan Warren Awards

Four players from seperate clubs have taken a share of the 2019/20 Golden Boot in a result never before seen in the Westfield W-League.

With the departure of Westfield Matildas striker and back-to-back Golden Boot winner Sam Kerr from Perth Glory, a void was left for to be filled by an individual ready to break out as the next shooting star of the Westfield W-League.

Not one, not two, but four players rose to the challenge: Kristen Hamilton from Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne Victory’s Natasha Dowie, Perth Glory midfielder Morgan Andrews and Sydney FC’s rising star Remy Siemsen.

The quartet of players all scored seven goals throughout the campaign to finish on level terms at the season’s end, with not one of their respective journey’s to that magic number bearing any resemblance to another’s.

Remy Siemsen wasted little time breaking clear from the pack, scoring six goals through Rounds 1-5.

With braces in Round 1, 3 and 5, Siemsen became the clear favourite to run away with the award, but the 20-year-old managed just one more strike in Round 8 against Canberra United to make it a nervous wait until the season’s end, where she found herself with three for company in the final standings.

Melbourne Victory’s Dowie became her club’s first ever Golden Boot recipient with her seven strikes for the campaign, scoring braces in Round 2 and 10 and singles in Round 8, 11 and 13.

A final-round clash with Sydney FC offered Dowie the chance to usurp Siemsen as the leading scorer in the league but neither striker could find the back of the net in that contest, which meant Dowie had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Hamilton, similar to Dowie, became the first Golden Boot winner wearing the Red and Black of the Wanderers.

Hamilton’s devastating hat-trick against Brisbane Roar in Round 3 turned heads around the league as the American and her Wanderers teammates put on a frightening spell of form to begin the season.

Strikes in Round 1 and 7 took Hamilton to five goals but it took until Round 14 for her to rise to the top.

The Wanderers striker scored an important brace which locked in finals football for the first time in her club’s history, whilst simultaneously confirming Hamilton would end her first Westfield W-League season as an equal top-scorer.

Hamilton’s compatriot Andrews took the longest to get going of all the four players, but the Perth Glory star’s form to end the season saw her bolt into contention.

It took until Round 8 for Andrews to notch her first goal but through Perth’s last four games she scored six times, including braces against Brisbane and the Sky Blues.

A Round 14 header against the Wanderers ensured Andrews stellar form ran to the very end of the season, where she found herself, suddenly, amongst Siemsen, Hamilton and Dowie as one of the four recipients of the Westfield W-League Golden Boot for the 2019/20 season.
