Extreme heat forecast forces postponements & rescheduling in A-Leagues

A heatwave that is set to hit Victoria and South Australia has forced the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) to either postpone or reschedule matches in the Isuzu UTE A-League and Liberty A-League over the Christmas period.

The APL Heat Policy states that if the ambient temperature approaches 40°C and/or the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) exceeds 28°C that matches should be delayed or postponed. In addition, drinks breaks should be implemented if the ambient temperature is in excess of 31°C and/or the WBGT is between 26°C and 27.9°C.

As a result, a pair of Liberty A-League fixtures scheduled for next week have been postponed, with temperatures set to soar across both states – Adelaide United v Wellington Phoenix at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday December 27 and Western United v Newcastle Jets at City Vista Recreation Reserve on Wednesday December 28 have been called off.

Details for the rescheduled Liberty A-League Women matches are still to be confirmed.

The Liberty A-League clash between Melbourne City and Perth Glory at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Tuesday December 27 has been pushed back to a 8:15pm AEDT kick-off, with the Isuzu UTE A-League contest between Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners to get underway at 5:30pm AEDT at the same venue.

Over at Coopers Stadium in Adelaide, the Reds v Newcastle Jets matchup in the Isuzu UTE A-League is now scheduled for kick-off at 8:15pm AEDT (7:45pm ACDT).

All other Liberty A-League Women and Isuzu UTE A-League Men matches for the remainder of December are scheduled to go ahead as per the fixture.
