Colakovski swaps City for Glory

Perth Glory’s rebuild is underway with the signing of former Melbourne City forward Stefan Colakovski.

After announcing his City departure on Monday, Colakovski has signed a two-year deal with the Isuzu UTE A-League outfit in Perth.

Colakovski’s arrival comes as the Glory reshape their squad after finishing bottom of the 2021-22 A-League Men standings, with former Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge headlining the departures.

“I’m delighted to sign for Perth Glory,” Colakovski said.

“The moment I knew there was interest, I knew it was the right move for me.

“Glory have a rich history and are one of the most well-respected clubs in Australia.

“I can’t wait to put on the purple kit on and play in front of all the members and fans.”

Colakovski first joined City in 2015 and broke into the senior team four years later, however, the 22-year-old striker has farewelled the Grand Finalists.

A two-time Under-21 North Macedonia international, Colakovski was part of City’s historic Championship in 2020-21 and back-to-back Premierships in 2021 and 2022.

Colakovski made 53 senior appearances for City across all competitions, scoring four goals.

He found the back of the net in City’s maiden AFC Champions League group-stage campaign this term.

“We welcome Stefan to what is the start of a rebuild here at PGFC,” said Glory’s head of recruitment Andy Keogh.

“He’s a fantastic young talent who fits a key strategy of the club in developing young Australian players for the future.

“Stefan will bring a winning mentality to our club having previously been part of a fantastic club in Melbourne City.”
