Australian Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Cameron Peupion has claimed Premier League 2 Player of the Month honours for April after a blistering month for the English club.
The former Sydney FC youngster was involved in all five of Brighton’s Premier League 2 fixtures throughout the month, scoring six goals and notching three assists, including a hat-trick against Manchester City .
Peupion was nominated amongst an eight-player shortlist. The award was bestowed to the rising Australian prospect by the Premier League’s football development panel.
It was a dream month for Peupion, who was selected amongst the substitutes by senior head coach Roberto De Zerbi in Brighton’s recent Premier League victory over Manchester United as reward for his scintillating PL2 form.
Brighton went unbeaten in April through games against five of the six ‘Big Six’ clubs in England, with Peupion scoring against Liverpool (1), Manchester City (3), Arsenal (1), Manchester United (1) before the Australian started in a 4-1 win over Chelsea to cap off the month.
Peupion signed for Brighton in 2020, identified by Brighton’s esteemed recruitment department. He earned his first senior appearance for the club under for Brighton boss Graham Potter in 2022.
Former A-Leagues striker Alou Kuol and recently-capped Socceroo and Manchester City prospect Alexander Robertson were among those to congratulate Peupion after the 20-year-old revealed the “big honour” of being selected as the PL2 Player of the Month on his Instagram account.
Brighton’s Under-21’s head coach Shannon Ruth praised Peupion for his “brilliant” achievement.
“Cam had a brilliant end to the PL2 season and it’s great to see that recognised by the league,” Ruth said.
“He’s worked hard to improve throughout the season and he was rewarded for that with his League Cup appearance at the beginning of the campaign, as well as being included in the Premier League squad to face Manchester United last week.”
