Broxham to go around again in 17th consecutive season for Victory

Melbourne Victory stalwart Leigh Broxham has signed a one-year contract extension with the Isuzu UTE A-League club.

One-club man Broxham will go around again in his 17th consecutive season for Victory after re-signing on Thursday.

The 34-year-old utility, who reached his 350th game milestone in 2021-22, is a four-time A-League Men Champion and the competition’s second-highest appearance holder.

Broxham celebrates Victory’s 2018 ALM triumph with Carl Valeri.

Broxham has also won two Australia Cups (formerly known as the FFA Cup), including this year’s trophy, during his time in Melbourne.

“I’m thrilled to be spending another season with the squad and playing in front of the Melbourne Victory fans at AAMI Park,” Broxham said, having made his debut for Victory in 2006.

“The club has been a big part of my life over the past 16 seasons and I want to continue to deliver for everyone involved at Victory.

“I’ve seen the progress over the past 12 months and we have something special here at the club. I’m looking forward to being a part of that for next season as well.”

In 2021-22, Broxham made 25 A-League Men appearances as Victory went from wooden spooners to semi-finalists in Tony Popovic’s first season at the helm.

Broxham featured in 30 matches across all competitions, including the AFC Champions League play-off against Vissel Kobe.

Broxham against former Sydney FC and Juventus superstar Alessandro Del Piero.

“Leigh has been magnificent since Tony Popovic and his team arrived at the club and his consistent performance level underscores his importance within the squad,” said Victory’s director of football John Didulica.

“He continues to set the standard for what it means to be a professional. His contribution to our Australia Cup success spoke volumes for his ability to consistently perform at a high level and also inspire his team-mates to do the same.

“We’re proud that Leigh wants to continue with us and we know he is as hungry as ever to win more trophies.”
