Aussie striker eyes new club

One-time Caltex Socceroo striker Scott McDonald has reportedly turned down a contract extension at his Scottish club and is set to look for a new club in the European summer.

McDonald, 33, has left Motherwell after club boss Stephen Robinson announced a revamp of his squad.

It’s understood the Aussie striker opted against triggering a one-year contract extension at Fir Park.

The Melbourne-born striker is one of eight players to leave Fir Park after the club narrowly avoided relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

Craig Samson, Joe Chalmers, Lee Lucas, Craig Moore, Stephen Pearson and David Ferguson will also leave Motherwell, while Zak Jules will return to Reading following a loan deal.

“I don’t intend to waste any time rebuilding as it’s a big job,” Robinson told his club’s website.

Scott McDonald is set to stay in Scotland with Motherwell.

McDonald, formerly of Celtic, Middlesbrough and Southampton, was linked with a move to Western Sydney Wanderers in last January’s window.
