Macarthur announce three exits inc. two stars set to ‘pursue overseas moves’

Macarthur FC have confirmed the departures of Daniel De Silva, Al Hassan Toure and Moudi Najjar at the conclusion of the 2022-23 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

De Silva leaves the club after two seasons. The former Perth Glory, Central Coast and Sydney FC creator arrived in Campbelltown in 2021 after a terrific season at the Mariners but has contributed just two goals from 31 league appearances in his time at the Bulls.

He joins Toure in departing the club in pursuit of opportunities abroad, Macarthur revealed in a statement on Friday evening. Like De Silva, Toure has spent two seasons at the club; he scored three goals and assisted five more in the 2022-23 campaign in what was his most productive season to date.

Najjar meantime departs after three seasons and 36 A-League Men appearances for the Bulls, after signing in 2020 from Melbourne City as a foundation squad member for the club’s inaugural campaign.

News of Macarthur’s three latest departures came as Newcastle Jets confirmed co-captain Matthew Jurman’s exit after 45 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The Socceroo signed for Newcastle in 2021 and has since played a senior role among Arthur Papas’ squad. Jets executive chairman Shane Mattiske praised Jurman as “an outstanding leader for the club on and off the field” in a club statement confirming his departure.

Newcastle Herald’s James Gardiner is reporting Macarthur could be the former Australian international’s next destination; head coach Mile Sterjovski is in the midst of reshaping the squad he inherited from Dwight Yorke in mid-season en route to a wooden spoon finish.
