Staj attack! Glory sign Young Matilda ahead of Liberty A-League season

Perth Glory have announced the signing of Anika Stajcic ahead of the Liberty A-League season.

The 17-year-old forward joins the club after a stint at Sydney FC, where she made her debut against Perth in Round 16 last season.

Stajcic’s move west comes after her dad, Alen, was appointed the Glory’s Isuzu UTE A-League manager last month.

Prior to signing with Sydney, the Young Matilda rose to prominence playing for Football NSW Institute in the NPLW New South Wales.

“I’m really excited to be here in Perth,” she said.

“Personally, I want to get a bit more playing time than I got at Sydney last season and I definitely feel that the team here is very together, really connected and willing to fight for each other.

“I’m confident that we can make the Finals this year having been pretty unlucky to have just missed out in the past couple of seasons.

“We definitely have a high spirit and I think that can really take us far in this competition.”

Stajcic is the club’s latest attacking arrival, joining the likes of Millie Farrow, Grace Jale, Quinley Quezada and Tia Stonehill who all joined the club this off-season.

“Anika is an exciting attacker in the early stages of her career,” Glory’s Liberty A-League coach Alex Epakis said.

“She comes to our club with Young Matildas and A-League Women experiences which we hope to build on further.

“Anika holds a very strong competitive mentality, along with a good attacking skill-set and she is very eager to make her mark on this team and contribute to the team success.

“We have a very exciting group of young players in our squad and Anika adds further quality.”

Perth begin their season at home against Western United on October 14.
