Glory confirm two exits inc. a Socceroo: They’re both heading to the same place

Perth Glory have parted ways with star Isuzu UTE A-League forward Ryan Williams and experienced defender Jordan Elsey by mutual consent, as the club revealed a new head coach is set to be appointed in the “very near future”.

Glory announced the pair had their contracts terminated in order to explore playing opportunities in India.

Glory paid a transfer fee to bring one-time Socceroo Williams back to his boyhood club just one year ago on a three-year contract, after 11 years in the United Kingdom.

Williams scored four goals in 24 appearances as the Glory missed out on finals football last season, while Elsey found the back of the net once in 10 matches following his arrival from Newcastle Jets in January.

As part of their announcement, Perth also provided an update on their coaching situation after Ruben Zadkovich resigned last month and Kenny Lowe took over on an interim basis for the friendly against the Premier League’s West Ham and Australia Cup play-off with Macarthur FC.

The club’s future recently moved a step closer towards being resolved, after receivers were appointed to run the club and find a buyer before next season.

“We would like to thank Jordan and Ryan for the contribution they made to Perth Glory during their time here,” said Glory CEO Anthony Radich.

“The club is currently managing a complex and abnormal set of circumstances and the decision to have these two senior players depart was a very difficult one, but we understand their desire to take up the option of very lucrative offers in Asia and wish them all the very best for the future.

“We will now take the opportunity to reinforce our squad under the direction of our new Head Coach whom we expect to appoint in the very near future.”
