‘Sent for a pie’ by Bowen and ‘straight to the bar’ by Glory teen: watch Lowe’s hilarious presser

Kenny Lowe’s tenure as Perth Glory interim head coach could come to an end at any moment – so enjoy it while you can.

The club’s academy director committed to the interim role for games against West Ham United and Macarthur FC on July 15 and 18. He’s ruled himself out of the running for what comes beyond this flurry of first-team action – but for now, looks perfectly comfortable sitting in the Glory hot seat.

You can sense that much in the way he’s addressed the media in the build-up to, and in the aftermath of, his side’s 6-2 loss to the Hammers at Optus Stadium on Saturday night, with each question asked met with witty remarks and one-liners.

Kenny’s best quips after West Ham defeat

On the clinical touch of Jarrod Bowen

The England international scored twice and assisted one more in West Ham’s 6-2 rout of Perth. Not bad for a second-half substitute.

“Bowen? What a player. He’s top shelf,” Lowe said.

“I think he dropped his shoulder once and sent me for a pie. He’s excellent.”

On 18-year-old Joel Anasmo’s nearly moment

Lowe injected youth into his lineup at half-time – and within minutes it had almost paid dividends, when 17-year-old Daniel Bennie played a one-two with 15-year-old James Overy, before finding Joel Anasmo – 18 – at the back post. His shot was saved by Łukasz Fabiasnki.

“Young Joel at the far stick, if he had stuck that in I would have gone straight to the bar afterwards, because that would have been some unbelievable goal,” Lowe said.

On the potential of Daniel Bennie

The Joeys star signed a scholarship contract with Perth this week – and scored against West Ham to celebrate.

“Like any kid he’s got a s***load of potential, he’s just got to turn that potential into (something). And if that happens I’ll be his agent and take the 10%, you know what I mean? That’s how it works!”

On blooding a 15-year-old against the Premier League side

The second half on Saturday night belonged to the Glory kids as much as it belonged to the Hammers.

And out of the nine Perth teens on display, a special word was reserved for 15-year-old James Overy.

“The right-back was 15. And he’s a winger,” Lowe said.

“He’s never played right back in his life, do you know what I mean? Poor lad. He won’t sleep tonight – and he was brilliant.”

On David Moyes’ pre-game ‘tip-off’

If the West Ham boss is to believed, he had his eyes on one particular Glory player as the two clubs faced off at Optus Stadium.

Moyes revealed pre-game that he’d received a tip-off on a Glory player – who that player was, he refused to specify.

“I haven’t got a clue (who it was),” said Lowe.

“If I had to put my money on it I’d probably say Corey Sutherland or Daniel Bennie. But then again, it’s my money so probably not.”
