Jets sign former Western keeper as Jack Duncan bids farewell

Newcastle Jets have announced the arrival of one goalkeeper and the departure of another, with former Western United gloveman Ryan Scott joining the club after Jack Duncan’s exit.

Duncan’s third stint at the Jets comes to an end at the conclusion of the 2022-23 Isuzu UTE A-League season. The 30-year-old has accumulated 99 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Jets executive chairman Shane Mattiske thanked Duncan for standing tall in “probably the toughest role on the field over many years for the Newcastle Jets.

“After having served three different periods here at the club and playing 99 games in all competitions, he will step into new opportunities having established a strong football career here in Newcastle,” Mattiske added. “We wish Jack well in the next step of his career.”

News of Duncan’s departure came in the hours preceding Ryan Scott’s arrival from Western United. Scott spent four seasons at Western as one of the club’s inaugural signings. He made 19 appearances of his 21 A-League Men appearances for Western in 2020-21, receiving just 45 minutes of game time in the 2022-23 season in the final round of the campaign.

Scott expressed his gratitude to his new club after signing for the Jets.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to represent Newcastle,” he said. “I’m looking forward to moving up and meeting my team mates, staff and all of the supporters.

“I’ve heard only good things about Newcastle and I can’t wait to get out on the training track and get to work.”
