Macarthur FC ‘look forward to a successful future’ as Sterjovski signs contract extension

Macarthur FC head coach Mile Sterjovski has signed a two-year contract extension set to run until the end of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign.

The former Socceroo took the reins in January after the sudden departure of Dwight Yorke from the club’s head coach role. In signing his first contract at the Bulls, Sterjovski became the first coach to come through the club’s youth pathways to take the senior job, having joined the club in its inaugural campaign in 2020 to coach the club’s youth team in the NSW NPL1.

Sterjovski has overseen 12 games as the club’s senior head coach since January, winning just two games, losing seven and drawing three.

The Bulls sit on the foot of the table heading into the final round of the season.

Despite a lack of results through his early tenure, a club statement ensured that the “board has been significantly impressed with the restructure of the first-team’s playing style and standards under the guidance” of Sterjovski.

“We are proud to have Mile extend his stay with the Bulls for another two seasons,” said Macarthur chief executive Sam Krslovic.

“Mile has been part of the club since day one and has been an integral part of building the foundations of the club.

“In staying until 2025, Mile represents the reinforcement to the football philosophy that we built before our first season in the (A-League Men).

“While this season has had its challenges, we are pleased with the progress of the squad and the development of many of our most promising players. We look forward to a successful future under the guidance of Mile.”

Meantime Sterjovki expressed his gratitude to the club for instilling their faith in him for the long-term.

“I am very honoured to be offered a long-term contract and I want to thank the CEO and board for having faith in me and my abilities,” he said.

“We have put in place a lot of new structures and we are starting to see the benefits, even if results haven’t always gone our way. I believe we are well placed to deliver success in the coming seasons.”
