Adelaide farewell striker after second stint with Reds

George Blackwood and Asad Kasumovic have departed Adelaide United after their contracts expired with the Isuzu UTE A-League club.

Blackwood – in his second stint with the Reds – scored two goals last season as Adelaide reached the Semi Finals.

The 26-year-old striker returned to Adelaide in 2021 after a season with Oldham Athletic in England, having spent three years in South Australia prior to that.

A member of the Adelaide team that won successive Australia Cup titles in 2018 and 2019, Blackwood scored 25 goals in 113 matches across all competitions.

Kasumovic, who moved to the Reds from Adelaide City on a scholarship deal in 2021, made 10 appearances for the A-League Men outfit, including six in the ALM last term. The 21-year-old, though will continue to recover from a broken foot at Adelaide.

“On behalf of everyone at Adelaide United, I want to thank both George and Asad for the commitment and hard work during their time with us,” said Adelaide head coach Carl Veart.

“Both players have contributed to our club-wide progress and I’m sure have bright futures ahead of them.

“We wish them well for their futures and we will always look back at their efforts with us with fondness.”

Adelaide have already farewelled Spanish veteran Juande, who left the club in May at the conclusion of his contract.
